Federal Land Communities levels up game in Marikina

Amy Remo

Marikina City has just unlocked its newest playground.

On Thursday, Federal Land Inc., together with the city’s local leaders, inaugurated a new football field at the Marikina Town Center, the developer’s expanding estate in the Eastern corridor of the metro. Complementing this field, the Toyota Tamaraw Food Park also opened its doors, bringing a fresh mix of dining experiences to the township.

Leading the opening of these two leisure attractions were Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro, Federal Land president Jose Mari Banzon, and Toyota Motor Philippines president Masando Hashimoto. They were joined by other local officials, executives of Federal Land and Toyota, and former Azkal player Anton del Rosario who opened the field with a ceremonial kickoff.

“Federal Land and its subsidiary Horizon Land are very much committed to Marikina… We’re trying to develop (our estate, Marikina Town Center) to be a complete community. That’s why we’re building this football field to complement our residential development and of course, the Marikina citizens’ love for sports,” Federal Land president Jose Mari Banzon said in his speech.

“Our vision for our Marikina (estate) is to be the center for wellness and recreation for the families who live here,” Banzon added.

Local government of Marikina, Federal Land executives, partners and local football teams came together for the opening of the Marikina Town Center Football Field.

A lifestyle destination

No doubt, the football field and the food park are poised to bring renewed energy into the 17-hectare township.

The new football field—measuring 100 by 68 meters—introduces a generous stretch of open, purposefully designed space. It offers room not only for athletes in training but also for families, hobbyists, and anyone looking for an outdoor break in the city. And with bleachers that can seat up to 250 spectators, the field is expected to become a natural gathering point, a place where Marikeños can root for local teams, join weekend matches, or simply enjoy a lively outdoor setting.

Beyond its social role, this facility also adds a strong anchor to the township’s identity as an emerging sports hub—one that draws more visitors, supports neighboring businesses, and contributes to a steady rhythm of activity throughout the day.

An exhibition match between Kaya Football Club and Adhika Football Club was held at the opening of the football field.

Local flavors

Right beside the pitch meanwhile is the Toyota Tamaraw Food Park, which channels a different but equally dynamic kind of energy.

Built in partnership with Toyota Motor Philippines, the food park features Tamaraw food truck conversions that house a curated selection of local vendors offering everything from elevated comfort food to specialty brews and neighborhood favorites. The setup further brings a casual, open air dining atmosphere to the township.

“We are happy to be part of this wonderful celebration and be a partner of (Federal Land Communities) in showcasing the culture of this great community,” Hashimoto said.

More than just a dining concept, Hashimoto also sees the food park as a platform for supporting small entrepreneurs. This fits squarely into Federal Land’s broader strategy to expand the township’s retail landscape, giving micro and small enterprises room to grow, while keeping the area active throughout the day.

An evolving township

All these new initiatives make one thing clear: Marikina Town Center is steadily entering a new stage of growth.

According to Banzon, Federal Land is now moving into the township’s next phase, starting with the redevelopment of Blue Wave Mall and the adjacent Petron station. The refreshed complex—targeted for opening in the first half of 2026—will introduce upgraded sports and lifestyle facilities, including courts for basketball, badminton, and pickleball.

Additional commercial and residential projects are also underway, all poised to boost business activity and solidify the estate as a well-rounded mixed-use hub built for everyday convenience and commercial growth.

At present, Marikina Town Center is one of the 10 masterplanned townships under Federal Land Communities (FLC), a portfolio of sustainable developments focused on mobility, accessibility, and contemporary city living.

And step by step, Marikina Town Center is becoming just that—an integrated community with a broad range of uses and experiences. Its new additions and upcoming projects are beginning to define the character of its next phase.

But for now, Marikeños already have something to enjoy: the football field and the open-air food park, easily the city’s newest weekend spot.
