It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at SM Supermalls
The Philippines takes the lead in starting the Christmas season, beginning as early as mid-September, a significant 100 days ahead of December 25.
This early kickoff is attributed to the Filipinos’ irrepressible nature to party and celebrate. Social media posts featuring “Mr. Christmas” himself, Jose Mari Chan, signal the impending Christmas flurry.
Delightful display
SM Supermalls, aligning with this festive spirit, marked SM’s 65th anniversary with elaborate Christmas tree-lighting events across its malls in October, treating guests and mall-goers to a delightful display of Christmas joy.
SM Supermalls kicked off its series of 84 Christmas tree lighting ceremonies at SM Aura with “Ilaw at Ligaya,” a modern Filipino spectacle featuring a Pinoy-themed fashion show set to local carols and beats. It showcased a giant Capiz parol and a 33-foot Christmas tree, adorned with eco-friendly ornaments like rattan, raffia, abaca, and buri, along with a glittering curtain of LED lights.
“Ngayong taon, inaanyayahan namin kayong lahat na mahal naming pamilyang Pilipino na ipagdiwang ang pagbibigayan at saya ng tunay na Pasko dito sa SM. (This year, we invite all our beloved Filipino families to celebrate the spirit of giving and joy of a true Christmas here at SM),” shared Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls.
Starry illusion
SM Mall of Asia (MOA) featured a pop-themed Christmas tree adorned with color-changing LED lights, red metallic Christmas balls, and a canopy of 70,000 LED bulbs, creating a starry illusion. The 65-foot tree elevated the festive ambiance with performances from dance world champions, the A-Team, and pop icon Sarah Geronimo.
Starting Nov. 16, SM MOA’s Night of Lights serves as a visual delight for families, with its immersive lights, neon attractions, and holiday music at the Level 3 of South Entertainment Mall of MOA.
Holiday tunes
At SM Megamall’s “Mega and Bright Christmas,” a 50-foot Christmas tree with a New York motif was unveiled, adorned with ornaments highlighting the city’s character and a sense of Central Park’s natural beauty. Inflatable PVC balls mixed with spherical lamps and LED fireworks added to the festive ambiance.
At SM City North EDSA, the Northern Holiday Express, a 110-foot red train encircling a 60-foot Christmas tree, created a magical Christmas journey. The Holiday Express Experience invited shoppers on a three-minute global Christmas celebration, complemented by a playful pink rein-bear, Santa’s Squad meet-and-greet, and a Holiday Market on the cargo train for festive presents.
SM Supermalls collaborated with the iconic Chan on a catchy holiday tune, “Celebrate Christmas at SM.” He graced the tree-lighting ceremonies at SM Megamall and SM City North EDSA, serenading guests and shoppers.
We may still be in November, but over at SM Supermalls, the Christmas holiday season has begun in earnest and shoppers were all excited to point out to their children what was installed, hanging from the rafters, and festooned along the common areas.
It’s a cheery Christmas note that all SM Supermalls are ready to sing out for their respective communities.
