Luxury beyond the price tag

Ar. Vittoria Mawis-Aliston

Luxury is a word that you either fear or worship.

Defined by Merriam-Webster as “a condition of great abundance or great ease and comfort,” luxury is often associated with elegance, indulgence and high costs. In real estate, luxury homes often feature expert craftsmanship, custom details, and unique features. These elements entice many but only a few can afford them.

The question everyone asks, however, is usually the same thing: Is it really worth all the money?

Today, let us discover the true meaning of luxury in real estate. Beyond branding, luxury is something that needs to be clearly defined in today’s saturated market. Discovering its clear definition can help us determine the true value of a property beyond the price tag.

Quality

This word is probably the best word to encompass all luxury properties.

Luxury, in a nutshell, is about enjoying the best quality of life. To put themselves a cut above the rest, luxury properties offer something unique and truly special. More often than not, exceptional offerings provide quality in terms of comfort, exclusivity, location, architecture and experience.

Many developers market their properties as luxury without clearly defining what makes them special. If you’re on the hunt for luxury spaces, go beyond the aesthetics of a potential estate and ask, what makes this project unique from other similar offerings on the market?

Nowadays, sustainable features such as natural lighting and ventilation are marketed as luxury experiences.

Comfort

In terms of comfort, luxury properties use high-end materials to create well-crafted spaces.

Ergonomics, or the scientific discipline that designs things according to human dimensions and tendencies, is well-considered. For example, a luxury chair is one that ensures that your back, legs and head are all accommodated in an optimal position to reduce pain and discomfort.

This idea also applies to luxury properties. Luxury properties take into account the needs of its potential users, especially those from unique groups such as children, seniors and persons with disabilities. These properties ensure the comfort of all their users, regardless of their age and abilities.

Luxury spaces utilize quality materials and good design to create unique experiences.

Exclusivity

When it comes to exclusivity, luxury properties are often not made available to the general public. While this may come off as snooty to some, the reason is often due to limited capacity.

Places that offer luxury amenities and experiences limit clients so that they can provide and maintain top-notch service. Exclusivity also protects the privacy and security of clients.

Location

Even location dictates the value of a property.

A place that is a few steps away from a popular landmark would be appraised at a higher value than one that is several blocks away. Similarly, a home that is located within a community that has its own transportation hub and mall is often priced higher than a similar one that stands alone.

The location where a property is built often dictates its property value. This is the reason why homes in Metro Manila are often more expensive than those found in the provinces. If your property puts you right next to places of work, schools, and leisure, you enjoy convenience that makes your home much desirable.

Luxury homes are often well though-out, featuring spaces that effectively meet their user’s needs.

Architecture

Luxury properties are often conceived through careful planning and design.

Architects tasked with designing luxury spaces often consider various aspects of the human experience to ensure that the spaces are one-of-a-mind. Building materials, spatial arrangement, and even ornamentation are well-studied before execution.

Many luxury spaces also adhere to historical architecture styles that provide unique experiences.

From classical motifs to hi-tech features, these spaces enable users to feel as if they are in another dimension, separate from the rest of the world. Architecture is utilized to create unique experiences, whether in terms of decor, spatial arrangement, amenities or features.

In addition, concepts such as sustainability and eco-living are also becoming synonymous with luxury spaces. Spaces that enable their users to give back to Mother Nature and make positive contributions to the world are rare.

More often than not, places that are designed to feature sustainable systems such as solar power, water recycling and natural cooling elements are marketed as luxury because they also contribute to our comfort and long-term savings.

Experience

Most importantly, luxury spaces are all about the experience.

Whether you remember a luxury space for its unparalleled comfort, exclusive amenities or exceptional architecture, it’s the experience that truly makes the place memorable to you.

The freedom to pursue various lifestyles also make luxury spaces in-demand, as these places provide people with the elements needed to pursue their passions and enjoy their lives to the fullest.

True luxury spaces are hard to come by. They are worth every penny of investment because of their offerings of unique and unparalleled experiences.

Luxury, however, is not all about the price tag of a place at all. If you find a home that provides you an exceptional experience, one that makes you go “Wow!” and leaves you with a lasting impression, that is a luxurious home for you.

Its value lies in the idea that you, your family and the future generations will be able to enjoy something truly unique, comfortable and pleasant for many years to come.
