Negrense identity through design
Bacolod’s rich design heritage finds vibrant expression through the Association of Negros Producers (ANP), a longstanding entity of resilience and entrepreneurship.
Emerging from the challenges of the 1980s sugar industry crisis, ANP champions the preservation of Negrense identity while fostering successful businesses.
At the heart of ANP’s endeavors lies The Negros Showroom, a year-round retail platform in Bacolod, showcasing the region’s craftsmanship. Here, traditional design motifs blend seamlessly with modern aesthetics, attracting customers who seek culturally meaningful products. Additionally, ANP’s flagship event, The Negros Trade Fair, held every September in Makati, serves as a vital conduit between local artisans and a broader market. This fair is still the longest-running trade event in the country.
ANP’s success lies in its ability to merge heritage with commerce. By providing a platform for local producers, the organization not only preserves Negrense identity but also fosters sustainable businesses. The integration of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design ensures competitiveness in today’s market while honoring cultural roots.
In essence, Bacolod’s design community, as exemplified by ANP, boosts both cultural preservation and economic growth, underlining how design can be a vehicle for progress while at the same time keeping heritage alive.
