PDO strengthens sustainability efforts with new solar initiative

Pueblo de Oro Development Corp. (PDO), a leader in affordable residential communities and townships, has strengthened its commitment to sustainable living by installing solar panels on rooftops and in the open spaces of its developments.

This initiative takes a significant step forward through a newly signed partnership with August Energy NetZero Inc. (August Energy), which will see the deployment of rooftop and ground-mounted solar photovoltaic systems across PDO projects nationwide.

PDO president and COO Prim Nolido led the signing ceremony, joined by August Energy CEO and director Kunal Mehta and director Camilo Paulo Concio. Also in attendance were Francis Araneta, Philippine country manager of Green Alliance Solutions, and Bienvenido Jose Alora, senior vice president of the Investment and Capital Corp. of the Philippines (ICCP) Group. PDO is the residential development arm of ICCP.

“We believe sustainable development is not just about building homes, but also about fostering safe and resilient communities,” Nolido said. “This partnership with [August Energy] is a natural extension of our mission to integrate renewable energy into our operations and uplift the communities we serve.”

Cost-efficient green solutions

August Energy provides customers across Southeast Asia and India with sustainable, cost-efficient and resilient solutions relating to green energy. The company is headquartered in Singapore, with offices in Thailand, India and the Philippines.

Meanwhile, PDO espouses green living in the Philippines–setting itself apart in the affordable housing sector by integrating sustainability into the core design and planning of all its developments.

Its projects include infrastructure addressing flood control and erosion mitigation measures, institutionalized recycling systems, and dedicated spaces for green living spaces and nature reserves. PDO also continues to seek expertise and certifications to ensure its developments meet globally recognized standards.

Clean energy

To kick off this new commitment to renewable energy, PDO and August Energy are installing solar panels in the former’s developments in Cagayan De Oro City (CDO) and Malvar town in Batangas.

The installations are expected to generate a combined 200 kilowatt-peak (kWp) of clean energy.

The energy will be used on the 400-ha PDO Township in CDO, including the clubhouse of the Pueblo de Oro Golf & Country Club, The Hub commercial center, and portions of the open area in Westwoods Village. It will also power the sales office building of PDO Townscapes Malvar, a premier 48-ha eco-friendly community that offers work-live-play environment.

The solar panel initiative builds on PDO’s earlier solar efforts, including installations at Pueblo Golf’s Bag Drop Building and the Townsquare commercial center in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. The company had also donated solar panel systems and solar-powered streetlights to partner barangays in Malvar and Batangas City.
