SM Laoag showcases new era of architectural mall design

This sleek, modern destination in the north pays homage to Ilocandia while introducing world-class retail, dining, and entertainment to the Laoag City community.
SM City Laoag—the 88th SM mall nationwide and the first in Ilocos Norte—embodies SM Supermalls’ commitment to enriching Laoag with a curated mix of homegrown and global brands as well as family-friendly leisure spaces designed to enrich lifestyle choices in the region.
Offering Ilocanos a rich variety of shopping, dining, and leisure experiences however, SM Laoag embraces Ilocos’ landscape, culture and textures in a three-level contemporary architectural style.

Touches of tradition
SM City Laoag, fittingly embodies the embrace of wind and woven threads in this newly opened mall, with its flowing lines and sweeping curves, ample natural lighting, and intricate cultural details subtly integrated throughout the mall’s public spaces.
True to Laoag’s name, which means “light” or “clearing,” the mall’s design emphasizes openness and natural illumination. Expansive skylights, translucent materials, and wide open interiors flood the mall with sunlight, creating an inviting and vibrant atmosphere.
The grand atrium skylight—which is inspired by Inabel, Ilocos’ traditional handwoven textile—stands out in particular. This feature “interlaces light and heritage,” becoming “a subtle monument to Ilocano craftsmanship—elevated through clarity, restraint, and thoughtful design.”
Other details and features include the unique garlic-shaped lights, which pay tribute to the province’s famous produce, and the colorful installations at Dap-Ayan Park, which warmly greet visitors with Ilocano expressions like “Ay ayaten ka” (“I love you”).

Sustainability at the heart of SM Laoag
The mall’s natural illumination cuts energy usage by reducing reliance on artificial lighting, while thoughtfully integrated materials and open-air zones improve airflow.
SM City Laoag also has a rainwater collection system at Dap-Ayan Park, reducing water consumption and nurturing greenery. The electric vehicle charging stations meanwhile promote sustainable transport solutions.

Ilocos Norte’s newest icon
Since it opened last May 30, SM City Laoag beckons the Laoag community guests to explore its roster of first-in-city stores featuring local and international brands, dine at its diverse restaurants, and unwind in relaxing green spaces and beautifully landscaped communal areas. Family-friendly entertainment zones, including Kidzoona, Fantasy World, and state-of-the-art cinemas with Director’s Club theaters, further ensure enjoyable experiences for all ages.
