SM Development Corp. (SMDC) recently unveiled a rebranding program to usher its 20th year anniversary.

Jessica Sy, SMDC VP and head of Design, Innovation and Strategy, and the daughter of SMDC chairman Henry Sy Jr., said in her speech during the program that SMDC will not rest on its laurels but will continue to “innovate, to keep improving, and to make sure SMDC communities remain places where every Filipino can build a bright future.”

Nurturing communities

In the past 20 years, Sy said SMDC has not only built homes but has also nurtured communities and helped change lives.

“That’s what the good life is all about—creating spaces where people feel like they truly belong, where they can build their dreams. I hope you saw how important you all are in that process,” she said.

Sy added that the rebranding of SMDC goes beyond the introduction of a new logo.

“This isn’t just a new logo or a fresh look—it’s a powerful reflection of who we are and what we stand for. It’s a commitment to building more than just homes—it’s a pledge to create sustainable, inclusive, and accessible spaces all over the country. Spaces that do more than provide shelter—they connect people to each other, to economic opportunities, and to progress,” Sy explained.

“This new brand captures the spirit of connection, opportunity, and progress. It reflects our deep commitment to making sure that no matter where you are in the Philippines, SMDC is a place where you can find a home and a community that supports you every step of the way,” Sy added.

Suzy the mascot

Aside from the new logo, SMDC launched Suzy, the official 20th anniversary mascot of the company. She said Suzy embodies the energy and optimism that “fills every corner  of our communities, reminding us that the good life is all about connection, happiness, and living fully.”

Moreover, Sy said Suzy epitomizes the hard work and all the accomplishments of the company.

Sy also paid tribute to her grandfather Henry Sy Sr. for championing the advocacy of giving back. She said that Henry Sr. believed that uplifting the lives of Filipinos  goes beyond providing the basic needs—it was about helping every Filipino reach their dreams.

She said her father Henry Sy Jr. carried on the advocacy of her grandfather in the most meaningful way possible.

“For my father, better known to you as HSJr., building communities was never just about constructing houses. It was about creating a world where every Filipino could feel at home, where everyone would have the chance to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. This wasn’t just his personal mission; it was a family promise. And over the past two decades, this promise has grown into the legacy we’re all a part of today,” she said.

Tribute to the people

Sy also paid tribute to the people who joined SMDC in building the dream homes of Filipinos.

“From the designers who craft spaces that inspire, to the property managers who make our communities feel warm and welcoming, to the support teams who work behind the scenes, and, of course, to the sellers and residents who bring these communities to life—you are the reason we are here today.”

Sy described the last 20 years of the SMDC as a collective effort and shared journey filled with the dedication, passion, and resilience of an incredible team.

She said the SMDC team didn’t just built homes to

shelter people but provide venues where friendships bloom, where families thrive, and where neighbors become like family.

“This is the true heart of SMDC, and it’s why we’re so proud of the homes and communities we’ve created,” Sy said.
