Deceive the eye
Train the eye to look upward when entering your condo unit. This creates the illusion of a taller space and a more airy interior. Vertical lines, tall shelves, floor-to-ceiling curtains, and elongated décor can help create a more proportionate look. Think of it like seeing a medium-height beauty queen with long legs—she always seems taller because of her proportions, a trait I would love to have!
Floor to ceiling shelving
Storage looks better when it goes taller. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry not only provides more storage space but also creates a cleaner, more polished look. Another way to achieve this is by creating concealed cabinets within walls. Kitchen hanging cabinets also look better this way.
Long drapes
Floor-to-ceiling curtains can instantly draw the eye upward, especially if the valance is a standout feature. You can also add long tassels to bring more glamour into the space. Sorry, I can’t help it!
Highlight the ceiling
I love playing with the ceiling. Add graphic wallpaper to enhance the space. Create cove lighting with the right accent detail. Hang a painting overhead. Use a different ceiling finish—metallic, perhaps?
Tall built-in shelves
Shelves are useful and efficient, but they can also be decorative. They make a space more interesting while creating the illusion of a bigger, more open interior.
Layered lighting
Wall sconces that illuminate upward naturally direct the eye. Even sconces, table lamps, and floor lamps can create layers of light and shadow that illuminate a space beautifully.
Add stripes
I love anything striped, from shirts to walls! Thin stripes can be more discreet, but I always love thicker ones. One striped wall in a room is enough to create the illusion of height.
Wall of art
A large wall of art, prints, or paintings in a variety of frames creates a visual interest without sacrificing space.
