Wilcon’s 100th store: A progressive journey

Many consider the number 100 as a perfect number. For Wilcon Depot, Friday, December 13 was the perfect day to launch its 100th store.

The 100th store–located in Lubao, Pampanga–is Wilcon Depot’s 5th in the progressive province of Pampanga. Important business and political personalities graced the ribbon-cutting of Wilcon Depot Lubao and they all expressed optimism and favorable prospects at the store’s launch.

Growth potential

Among these luminaries was Lubao Mayor Esmeralda G. Pineda, who couldn’t help but gush at their town’s good fortune of being chosen over other towns in the 2nd district.

Pineda cites at least three benefits that Lubao will enjoy because of the store’s opening. First, she considers that immense economic growth potential this store will trigger. The rate of infrastructure continues to soar in the province. Having a Wilcon store right in the heart of the progressive town will certainly boost its overall economy.

“Our growth rate is at 7 percent and it is increasing. Wilcon’s presence is good news for our economy,” she said.

Another thing that Pineda is grateful for are the employment opportunities for Lubao’s residents. Wilcon Depot employs key staff that come from the locale. The leading home improvement company believes that local talent is available and can be harnessed to comply with the needs of the store.

Pineda is certain that hiring local talent is a driver for more investments.

“We can now boast that Wilcon, one of the largest companies in the Philippines, hired our people, our very own. That speaks well of our talented and customer service-driven Kapampangans,” Pineda added.

On a personal note, Pineda has been going around the store with an eye on sanitary ware, particularly toilets. She is also checking out options for the wall cladding of her office. For the municipality, she admits to paying special attention to the tiles and pavers.

Five sites

Another special guest during the launch was none other than Pampanga 2nd District Rep. and former Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. She said that Wilcon Depot and Pampanga has a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship.

“Here in Pampanga, we already have five sites of Wilcon Depot. And I hope you opened store number five because you had a good experience with the first four sites of Wilcon Depot,” she pointed out.

Arroyo also expressed pride in Pampanga being one of three Philippine provinces with the lowest poverty rate. For her, Wilcon’s presence is Pampanga and the low poverty rate in the province mean one thing.

“That shows we have a good market. We are a progressive market, and we have inclusive growth. For all these reasons, I am so happy to be here with all of you,” Arroyo added.

Another beginning

Rosemarie Bosch-Ong, senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of Wilcon Depot, said that reaching 100 in store count is not an end but another beginning.

“We want to continue with our mission and vision of providing sustainability. We want to help the Filipino to improve, build and renovate their homes in a comfortable and sustainable way,” Ong said.

To prove her point, Ong proudly referred to the huge high-intensity fans in the 7,000 plus sqm store.

“If you noticed, we have these big fans, that are high-intensity and low-speed. Having these is one way to help the environment. We all know that construction is a primary contributor to the carbon footprint. Wilcon doesn’t just talk about sustainability. We practice what we preach,” Ong emphasized.

She also invited the guests to check out the sustainable products found in the store marked “sustainable choice”.
