Angels shoot for top seeding against Chameleons

Avatar

Petro Gazz battles Nxled on Saturday in a game that the Angels could use just to make sure that they have all the components in their game working in time for the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

Game time is 4 p.m. at PhilSports Arena in Pasig with the Angels getting a sort of a tune-up match from a worthy foe in the Chameleons, whose finish at the bottom half of the 12-team field doesn’t really mirror the great effort they put in.

The Angels have been on a roll lately, sweeping their last four matches, including a crucial win over fellow semifinalist and defending champion Creamline.

With the semifinal counting Choco Mucho and Chery Tiggo, Petro Gazz will determine the final standings in the top four, which will dictate which team plays which at the start of the playoffs on Tuesday.

The top-ranked team will face the No. 3 squad at 6 p.m. while the second- and fourth-ranked teams will clash in the 4 p.m. opener, also at the Pasig venue.

A three- or four-set victory by the Angels will give them top spot over the Crossovers and Flying Titans as they will have superior tiebreak points in the event of a triple tie at 9-2.

Choco Mucho and Chery Tiggo finished with 26 and 25 points, respectively, but Petro Gazz will claim the top seed with 28 points if they secure a convincing win over Nxled.

However, a loss for Petro Gazz could see the two-time Reinforced Conference champion drop to third or fourth place, with Choco Mucho and Chery Tiggo taking the top two spots.

Meanwhile, Cignal clashes with Capital1 at 2 p.m., while Akari and Strong Group wrap it all up at 6 p.m. with all four teams aiming for victories and pride.
