As Titans continue groping for form, Sisi comes to the rescue
Choco Mucho is still having a hard time finding its old self in the PVL All-Filipino Conference.
The Flying Titans are lucky, however, that Sisi Rondina doesn’t have the same problem.
The high-flying power spiker came up with another strong performance, but opted to deflect the credit, saying Choco Mucho’s 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-27, 15-12 victory over Farm Fresh late Thursday evening was more than just a showcase of her talents.
“It’s a team effort, so whatever the result of our games is, we’ll accept it,” Rondina said in Filipino after leading the Titans to a marathon decision with 26 points, all but one from attacks.
The heroics of the former University of Santo Tomas star allowed Choco Mucho to snap out of a two-game funk and rise to a 3-3 (win-loss) standing before the holiday break.
Promising challenger
While Rondina has been consistent through victory and defeat, Choco Mucho as a whole continues to search for the form that once made it the most promising challenger to Creamline’s dynasty.
“We know that what’s happening to us is painful because we also did not expect everything that is happening,” Rondina said. “But everything happens for a reason, so we just need to continue working until we get our game back.”
Despite gargantuan performances day in or out for her crew, Rondina is far from satisfied with how she is performing. The last time they played Creamline, the Cool Smashers once again exposed her reception in another thrilling five-set encounter.
Farm Fresh did the same.
“Coming into this game, my mindset was I needed to get a good pass, because the opponents are targeting me and I know that is my weakness,” she said. “But I got over my fear, and I am happy to have fought it and found out that I can [receive properly]. I just need to continue working on it.”
“We are happy because we are learning a lot from our games. We are ending this year carrying the [lessons] from our games—whether it’s a loss or win—and we know that we can use that and we’ll just fix that by helping one another,” Rondina added.
Three more Titans ended up in twin digits, with Kat Tolentino’s 18 points built on 10 attacks, six blocks and two aces, while Isa Molde and Cherry Nunag each came up with 10 points hugely because of Mars Alba’s 25 excellent sets.
Thang Ponce showed her defense with 15 excellent digs in the two-hour, 25-minute duel where Choco Mucho committed 32 errors.
