Belen joins PVL Draft while awaiting foreign offers

Former National University skipper Bella Belen is using the PVL Rookie Draft as a contingency plan, signing up for the event to make sure she has something to fall back on in case plans to play abroad fall through.
The three-time UAAP women’s volleyball MVP told a radio program that she is keeping her options open just in case offers from popular destinations for local talents like Japan or Thailand come pouring.
“I am not yet fully committed [to the PVL Draft] because I could still withdraw,” Belen said in the Power and Play program on Saturday. “I’ll finally have a decision if I will push through for the Draft after the combine.”
The combine will be held from May 30 to May 31 before the second annual Rookie proceedings on June 8. Should Belen decide to continue her career in the local league, the teams that have the biggest chance to snag her are Nxled, Capital1, Farm Fresh and Galeries Tower.
The league will have a lottery draw for these four teams on Monday to determine the order of picks.
Other Bulldogs Erin Pangilinan and Sheena Toring were the first ones to confirm their plans to take their talents to the PVL.
Unlike her teammates, opposite spiker Alyssa Solomon, who formed a lethal 1-2 punch with Belen, did not sign up for the draft and has openly stated her plans of playing her trade overseas.
Solomon had previously withdrawn an application to play in Korea.
