Bisera takes formidable lead into final round

Adrian Bisera and Crista Miñoza crept closer to titles in their respective 15-18 divisions after carving out sub-par rounds on Wednesday in the penultimate round of the ICTSI South Pacific Junior PGT Championship in Davao on Thursday.

Bisera assembled a three-under-par 69 for a 36-hole 144 to open up a five-shot lead over Cagayan de Oro’s Armand Copok in the boys’ division, while Miñoza submitted a 71 to post a six-shot girls’ division lead and come within 18 holes to snapping a string of heart-rending defeats in the last three weeks.

After finishing third in Mactan and second at Del Monte and Pueblo de Oro, Miñoza, who belongs to the revered clan from Bukidnon, now has a 148 tally with Merry Rose Wacan, who fired a 77, giving chase.

Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro’s Jamie Barnes extended his unbeaten run in the boys’ 7-10 division after completing a hat trick of victories in commanding fashion. After a five-shot win at Del Monte and a nine-stroke rout at Pueblo de Oro, the nine-year-old phenom outclassed Cebu’s Kvan Alburo by 14 strokes, finishing with a 144 total after a 73.

Alburo, who also won the Match Play crown last year, shot a 78, as Miguel Revilleza struggled with an 82 and slipped to third at 161.

“I’m not used to playing this kind of course,” said Barnes.

In the girls’ 11-14 division, Brittany Tamayo collared a second Vis-Min leg victory with a 76 for a 145 total, holding off Del Monte leg winner Kimberly Baroquillo by three strokes.

Baroquillo closed out with a 72 for a 148. Zuri Bagaloyos finished third at 153 after a 75.
