Bossing pin third straight defeat on Hotshots

Inquirer Sports Staff

Blackwater became the latest side to add to Magnolia’s woes, as debuting import Robert Upshaw III and Sedrick Barefield came up with monster games to lead the Bossing to a 97-91 PBA Commissioner’s Cup victory at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Sunday.

The burly Upshaw III scored 35 points that went with 16 rebounds, with his third four-pointer giving the Bossing a 91-84 lead with under a minute left that basically sealed the win. Barefield also made it possible as Blackwater snapped a 12-game losing streak dating back to the All-Filipino Conference.

And now, it’s the Hotshots who are on a slide, as the traditional powers dropped to an alarming 0-3 card even after getting 38 points, nine assists and seven rebounds from import Anuwa Omot.

Barefield came off the bench to shoot 26 points in just over 36 minutes of action.

Ian Sangalang had shoved the Hotshots to within 87-84, before Upshaw III hit that four-pointer that practically snuffed the fight out of Magnolia, which went deep in the last Philippine Cup in new coach LA Tenorio’s first conference.
