The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) will receive a special award during the San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sportswriters Association (SMC-PSA) Awards Night, set for Jan. 27 at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel.

The recognition honors the league’s milestone 100th season as a key contributor to the country’s sporting legacy.

The grand affair, copresented by ArenaPlus, Cignal and MediaQuest, will also recognize 18 athletes and teams for their accomplishments in 2023.

Notable awardees include the Philippine dragon boat team, overall champions at the ICF Dragon Boat World Championship, and the Philippine Volcanoes, who secured victories in both men’s and women’s divisions at the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy. Other honorees include weightlifting champion Angeline Colonia, powerlifter Regie Ramirez and jiujitsu gold medalist Isabella Joseline Butler.

The Creamline Cool Smashers, winners of all three tournaments in the Premier Volleyball League, will also be recognized alongside a roster of achievers from billiards, chess, table tennis and cycling.

The highlight of the night will be Carlos Yulo, who will receive the Athlete of the Year trophy after bagging two gold medals in the Paris Olympics.

The event will have an Olympic flavor, as it gathers Olympians from different Olympiads and elevates Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo—who made history by being the first gold medalist of the country in the Summer Games—to the Hall of Fame.
