Cignal offseason recruiting spree nets three more vets to support 1-2 punch

Cignal has gone on an aggressive offseason buildup, surrounding Vanie Gandler and Ishie Lalongisip with the support they need, as the HD Spikers signed three seasoned aces which coaching staff can start utilizing in the PVL On Tour that gets going Sunday in Ilocos Sur.

Tine Tiamzon, Ethan Arce and Heather Guino-o were acquired and will be integrated into coach Shaq delos Santos’ system in a tournament setting as all teams see action in the On Tour.

“We are happy because we really want these players,” Delos Santos said of his acquisitions. “Some may think there’s redundancy in position, but they’re capable of switching roles. We’re hopeful we can maximize their potential.

“We (coaching staff) are very excited in teaching them the system.”

Cignal also got great talent in the Draft when it selected Erin Pangilinan, a highly regarded middle blocker from National University, as their first-round pick. In the second round, they secured Jessa Ordiales, a standout from De La Salle, known for her quick attacks and net defense.

The team also added libero Pearl Denura, an undrafted but impressive prospect who earned her spot through exceptional showings in tryouts and team scrimmages.

Beyond individual talent, the emphasis continued to be on system integration, player development and chemistry, which is what make championship-winning squads.

“Rest assured, we’re going to help all our new players grow in every aspect—on and off the court,” said Delos Santos. “With the depth and versatility we’ve built, we now have the pieces to compete with the best.”

Cignal will launch its On Tour campaign against Akari and the Capital1 Solar Spikers on Monday, both set at 4 p.m.

And for Delos Santos, these games are more than just warm-up matches. They will play the Chargers and the Solar Spikers with all they’ve got, basically to also see what else the team lacks heading into the All-Filipino proper in a couple of months.
