Cignal rebuild continues with Fernandez
Cignal made another significant signing in opposite spiker Jovelyn Fernandez on Wednesday, when it also let go of three of its regulars as the HD Spikers continue to shore up heading into the new Premier Volleyball League season.Fernandez, the former Far Eastern University (FEU) ace in the UAAP, will be joining a crack core led by Most Valuable Player Ces Molina, Jovelyn Gonzaga and the rising Vanie Gandler and libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig, who was signed last month to bolster their defense.
And with Macandili-Catindig aboard, the team opted to let go of liberos Bia General and Anngela Nunag and outside hitter Jerrili Malabanan, giving hints that there will be more signings to come as former teammates of Fernandez at disbanded F2 Logistics remain without teams.
“I am so happy to be a part of this Cignal team, especially with how they finished strong in the last two conferences,” Fernandez said in Cignal’s announcement on Wednesday. “I am looking forward to learn from coach Shaq [delos Santos] and [the veteran members of the team] who also came from FEU.”
Fernandez capped her collegiate stint with a Best Opposite Spiker award with the Lady Tamaraws before turning pro with F2 Logistics before the Invitational Conference last year. INQ
