Clarkson keys another Jazz win; Lakers lose third straight
SALT LAKE—Jordan Clarkson scored 36 points and Lauri Markkanen had 31 to lift the Utah Jazz to a thrilling 154-148 overtime win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night at home.Utah shot 51.5 percent overall, including 16-of-32 from three-point range, en route to tying a franchise record for points in a game.
Clarkson, who had the Jazz’s first triple-double in nearly 16 years on Monday, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter and then drained a big three-pointer late in overtime.
Collin Sexton added 25 points for Utah, which continued its best stretch of the season by winning for the ninth time in 12 games. Simone Fontecchio had 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Former Jazz players Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks helped Detroit put up its biggest offensive night of the season. Bogdanovic led the team with 36 points and eight triples, while Burks scored 27 points, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer to tie the score in regulation.Elsewhere, Tyler Herro scored 21 points and rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 16 points as the visiting Miami Heat turned solid early defense into a 110-96 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers to end a two-game road skid.Anthony Davis scored 29 points with 17 rebounds and Austin Reaves added 24 points as the Lakers lost their third consecutive game as they continue to struggle after their title in the NBA in-season tournament last month.
