Converge gets shot at nasty send off for Macau

Converge coach Delta Pineda was talking about adjustments the team still needs despite coming off a decisive rout of Titan Ultra in the PBA Governors’ Cup recently.

“We need to find a way to maintain our intensity, especially on defense,” Pineda said in Filipino after the 152-119 victory over the Giant Risers. “There are still adjustments that need to be made there. You saw [how we played] in the first, second and third quarters. Then, in the fourth, [the intensity dipped] again.”

Pineda is likely thinking ahead—when the playoffs roll around.

Because the next game of the FiberXers is against Macau, and there’s hardly any need for them to be overly cautious.

60-point loss

Pineda and his wards have the opportunity to send the guests home on a first-class ticket to infamy when they square off on Friday. The Giant Pandas have more black eyes than the eponymous animal they use as a moniker, losing their last four games by an average of 46.5 points.

They lost to NLEX by 60 and to TNT by 55, first and third on the all-time biggest margin list. Macau is the only team that appears twice in the top three.

After Macau, Converge next faces TNT, in a game reeking with playoff implications.

“I think our only position right now is for 3 or 4 so the game against TNT is still crucial,” said Pineda.
