Farm Fresh vets begin thinking about legacy
Farm Fresh veterans Mylene Paat-Rezanova and Remy Palma have been playing long enough to start thinking about what kind of legacy they will be leaving behind when their careers are over.
That is what continues to fuel the Farm Fresh veterans, who are hoping the young Foxies can learn a thing or two from them while they still have gas in the tank.
“I will treat this conference, or this season, as my final year of playing because I don’t know what the future holds,” Rezanova, who is married to Kazakh player Sergey, said in Filipino. “I also feel that I’m at an age where I have already settled down.”
The former league MVP led Farm Fresh with 14 points off the bench en route to a 25-23, 25-22, 25-15 sweep of Galeries Tower to open its All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series campaign on Tuesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“I want to share everything I’ve learned over the past 10 years, especially how to fight on the court,” she said after the match. “Whether you’re young or old, you can still play at a high level as long as you have the heart for the game.”
Palma, who has been playing in the PVL since the league turned pro in 2021, wants to keep on paying it forward for the younger generation, as a player-assistant coach for the Foxies.
“It feels nostalgic to be still here and have the opportunity to play in the PVL and be seen by our fans,” said Palma in Filipino after contributing three points. “As the PVL celebrates its 10th year, we also want to leave a good memory, especially for young volleyball players who aspire to play professionally one day.”
The first series of the All-Filipino features an all-to-play rule, something that the veteran middle blocker embraces.
“We don’t know if we’ll still be playing here in one, two or three years, so while we still have this opportunity, we want to deliver a good performance in every game,” Palma said.
“I don’t want to think of my [playing assistant coach] role as something difficult. I miss playing, and I want to work hard to get back on the court. But at the same time, I’m thinking about how I can help our coaches,” she added.
Trisha Tubu and Ces Molina chipped in nine points each. Louie Romero dished out 12 excellent sets, while libero Maicah Larroza had 11 excellent receptions and eight digs.
Galeries was led by Erika Deloria, who had 10 points and 10 receptions. No.1 overall pick Lams Lamina debuted with nine excellent sets and two blocks.
