Going into KO game, Dyip still feel they have ‘nothing to lose’
Take the phrase “perennial doormat” out in describing Terrafirma, for the Dyip—no matter what happens in the next few days—deserve that.
After taking down mighty San Miguel Beer in the first game of their PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals series on Saturday, Dyip stalwarts Juami Tiongson and rookie Stephen Holt are well aware that repeating against the defending champions will be twice as hard.
But both Dyip stars believe that pressure is not theirs to grapple with.
“We’ve got nothing to lose. And we’ve got everything to gain,” Tiongson told the Inquirer on the heels of a 106-95 triumph fashioned out before a partisan San Miguel crowd at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
“There’s no pressure on us,” Holt said in a separate interview. “We’re playing so free right now. We’re taking shots, they’re going in and we’re having so much fun out there.”
Brilliant outing
Terrafirma truly played a splendid game to win, as Tiongson scored 29 points, Holt 25 while Isaac Go chipped in 22. Javi Gomez de Liaño added 15 in the victory that painted a stark study as to how the outrageously talented Beermen fell.Only June Mar Fajardo and CJ Perez finished with at least 20 points for the Beermen. Jericho Cruz and Marcio Lassiter were the only other members of the squad who managed to finish with double-digit scores.
“It’s going to be do-or-die. Anything can happen.,” Tiongson said of the return game, which will be played on Wednesday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
