Hungry Terrafirma ready to feast on Fuel Masters

Fans can doubt Terrafirma’s hot start all they want, but there’s one thing they can’t deny.

The Dyip are hungry—starving, even—and they are chomping at the bit as they look to tear into the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, with fellow young squad Phoenix on their table this Wednesday at Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

Coach Ronald Tubid is feeling confident that his team can feast on its next foe.

“We’re so hungry to win. Every game, we treat it as our lunch because we’re just so hungry,” he said.

“It even includes dinner,” Tubid added in jest.

Veterans show way

And he swears the 3-0 record to start the conference is built beyond the performance that people see during games.

“It all starts with practice. Our imports and main guys—even those still finding their roles—have all sacrificed for the sake of this team.”

One would think the Dyip have their fill after taking down Titan Ultra, Converge and, most recently, Blackwater.

But they’re hungry for more and Paolo Hernandez, who erupted for 20 points in the Dyip’s latest conquest of the Bossing, believes it is because of the self-motivation that each player brings to games.

“I have a commitment to the team and I just want to give something back [in exchange for] the coaches’ trust. I want to repay the trust that they gave me,” he said.

Hernandez also lauded the squad’s veterans—Maverick and Jerrick Ahanmisi, along with Joseph Eriobu—for showing him the way.

“Kuya Mav, Jerick and Joseph Eriobu showed us how it should be. We want to change the culture. In past conferences, we were really down.”

The Dyip will have to work for their next meal—Phoenix is definitely not going down without a fight.

The Fuel Masters are expected to deal Terrafirma its first defeat, just as it is eager to bounce back from a 93-86 loss to Meralco on Saturday.

Terrafirma and Phoenix clash at 5 p.m. to open on Wednesday’s doubleheader, followed by a heavyweight bout between Converge and San Miguel Beer at 7:30 p.m.
