Late Rey strike gives Kaya draw with Davao

Avatar

Martini Rey scored a last-gasp equalizer as Kaya-Iloilo snatched a 1-1 draw against Davao Aguilas-University of Makati to begin its quest for a third straight title in the Philippines Football League over the weekend at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Rey’s goal came off a scramble in the 97th minute, which enabled Kaya to split a point with the Aguilas and keep their unbeaten streak in all domestic competitions.

Kaya extended that run to 36 straight matches dating back to the 2023 PFL season, but defeat seemed imminent after Davao took the lead on Gabriel Costa’s goal in the 76th.

Davao was forced to share the spoils in also its first match of the league season after last week’s tiff with Loyola was postponed.

Dynamic Herb Cebu and Stallion Laguna posted similar 2-0 wins against separate foes to climb up the table with six points apiece.

Cebu defeated the debuting Philippine Football Federation youth national team, while Stallion defeated One Taguig for their second win in as many games.
