Local bid armed to teeth for PH Ladies Masters

Inquirer Sports Staff

With all the top guns in the Ladies PGT, the country will be represented by its very best when the ICTSI Philippine Masters gets off the ground in less than two weeks at the Summit Point in Lipa City, Batangas.

Led by seasoned international campaigners like Princess Superal, Chanelle Avaricio and Daniella Uy and Florence Bisera, the best finisher among Filipinos in the recent China LPGA Tour Qualifying series, the local challenge will not be lacking in the $200,000 (around P11.6 million) championship.

Bisera wound up eighth overall in the Q Series, towing Avaricio, Uy and Mafy Singson in the China Tour that plays 18 legs. The quartet, though, will be skipping the preseason Orient Ningbo Challenge slated this week in Zhejiang as it plays at Summit and defends home turf.

“We’re all trying to get practice rounds in, to familiarize ourselves,” Singson told the Inquirer over the phone as a number of local bets are sampling the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-created gem. “We need all the advantage we can get because it’s going to be a tough field.”

Facing top talent from Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, the Filipinos will be trying to win this event for the first time.

Pauline del Rosario, who finished fourth last year at The Country Club in Laguna, has the best finish by a Filipino.

Superal, who campaigns regularly in the Step Up Tour in Japan, is one of the locals fancied to contend well in the 54-hole championship.

Organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc., the PH Ladies Masters also doubles as the kickoff leg of the 2025 Taiwan LPGA season, with 20 of the circuit’s leading players expected to compete. The event further cements the Philippines’ standing as a preferred destination for elite women’s golf tournaments, offering world-class venues where players come to sharpen their skills, gain exposure and vie for honors on a broader Asian stage.
