Malaluan all psyched up for future after graduation

Next week, Alleiah Malaluan will graduate with a degree in psychology.

For now, she and her PLDT teammates were focused on taking Akari to school.

“It’s fulfilling in a way that I’ll be entering the real world,” the La Salle product told reporters on Thursday, after helping the High Speed Hitters turn back the Chargers, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, 25-15 in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil Centre.

Her wait for a diploma hasn’t been idle.

Malaluan had 10 points in PLDT’s latest victory, one of five players in double figures for a team that used to rely heavily on star Savi Davison. And for the 23-year-old Malaluan, staying ready after battling back from health issues allowed her to contribute to the squad’s cause.

“The coaches always tell me to stay ready and stay motivated,” Malaluan said. “And that’s what I do in trainings, keep myself ready.”

Davison still led the High Speed Hitters with 18 points, leading an offense that was well complemented by the defense of libero Kath Arado and middle blocker Majoy Baron. Baron and Kim Kiana Dy are punching in 14 points each. Baron’s output included seven blocks.

Mika Reyes added 10 points.

“I think the mindset [helped]; it was always next point, next point,” Arado said after finishing with a game-best 26 digs. “[W]hen we made a mistake, those little mistakes the coaches always say are avoidable, [we got to] our next-point mindset.”

Malaluan, meanwhile, says her graduation will help push her even more.

“It will help me move forward and motivate myself to keep working harder,” she said.
