Maroons look to clean up game after tripping Tigers
University of the Philippines is bracing for another chapter of the “Battle of Katipunan” when it faces Ateneo on Saturday.
But instead of being able to ride the momentum of a victory over University of Santo Tomas late Sunday night, the Maroons will head into that marquee matchup looking to learn their lessons from lapses they saw in their game.
“I’m happy that we won the game but there are so many things to improve on as a team,” guard Rey Remogat said after UP’s 92-85 victory over UST at Smart Araneta Coliseum. “We really have to find our games and go back to them.”
Remogat may be headed for a bit of introspection, too. He finished with 11 points and seven assists but hit just three of 13 attempts from the field.
Back to the lab
The Maroons also could not seize control of the game until the second half, when Francis Nnoruka, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, spearheaded a breakaway.
“We’ll head back to the lab and put the work in,” Nnoruka said. “It was a great game and I’m excited with the win, but we still got a lot to work on and a lot of stuff to improve on.”
Also scoring victories on opening day were La Salle and Adamson.
The Archers turned back the National U Bulldogs while the Falcons stunned the Far Eastern U Tamaraws, this season’s UAAP hosts.
