Millora-Brown closer to Gilas stint with ‘standard’ national team offer

The excitement levels for Quentin Millora-Brown in a Gilas Pilipinas jersey just got higher after news over the weekend of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) reportedly offering the talented 6-foot-10 big man a national team contract.
A check with the SBP confirmed that an offer has indeed been made—a standard contract that everyone on the team has—and national coach Tim Cone can certainly get another piece he really likes and can certainly depend on.
“I’m not involved in that but I do hope it’s done,” Cone said in a text message to the Inquirer, a few hours before a SBP president Al Panlilio confirmed the offer. “(Executive director) Erika Dy of the SBP knows about the contracts.”
Cone has been more than vocal about his interest in seeing Millora-Brown, a one-and-done talent for the University of the Philippines in regaining the UAAP title last season, in his lineup.
‘Certainly excited’
A few weeks ago, almost immediately after the Philippines’ campaign in the 2025 Fiba Asia Cup, the longtime PBA mentor expressed his thoughts on QMB’s reclassification from naturalized to local player.
“We’re certainly excited about putting him in the lineup if it does become official,” Cone said before.
Dy, however, already touched on the idea of Millora-Brown in a Gilas jersey a few weeks back.
During the Pilipinas United 3×3 League presser, Dy was asked about Millora-Brown’s possible involvement with the Nationals for the next Fiba window, that being the 2027 World Cup Asian Qualifiers in November.
Coincidentally, Dy said the involvement of the 25-year-old in the Gilas program will be up to Cone.
“It’s [WCQ] definitely the next tournament in our calendar, so that’s the earliest that he will be part of the Gilas lineup, depending on his conversation with coach Tim, of course,” she had said.
Millora-Brown will certainly come in handy, as he becomes the fourth pure center on the team after June Mar Fajardo, Kai Sotto and AJ Edu.
Incidentally, Millora-Brown was very eager in expressing interest of playing for the National team, which was heightened when the Filipinos rallied in the second half of a friendly against the Macau Black Bears, which Millora-Brown is a part of, before Gilas left for Saudi Arabia for the Fiba Cup.
