One-armed wonder chases JPGT finals slot at Riviera
Necky Tortosa, a one-armed native of Iloilo enamored with the game of golf, will chase a slot in the National Finals of the JPGT when she campaigns in the Luzon Series 4 at Riviera Golf Club in Silang, Cavite, starting on Tuesday.
A remarkable story of inspiration, Tortosa played tremendously well in the girls’ 16-18 division after the Visayas and Mindanao swings, but still came up short of winning. Only the top two players from each division will make the final leg slated at The Country Club in Laguna in October, and Tortosa will give it all she has in Cavite to make that happen.
“I really wanted to play golf [even with my disability],” Tortosa, who even led after the early stages of play at Sta. Barbara, said in Filipino.
Heartwarming journey
Her heartwarming journey continues after family and sponsors have chipped in to make her trip to Luzon happen as she shoots to finally win a leg after finishing second in Iloilo and Marapara in Bacolod. She was also fourth at Binitin.
“I have trained and practiced hard [for this],” Tortosa said as she banners her field together with Pinewoods leg winner Rafa Anciano, Chloe Rada, Gabriela Sison and Casey Frankum.
Tortosa’s journey is not just about her skill on the golf course, it is a testament to her character and spirit. Her faith in God and belief in herself have propelled her to achieve remarkable feats, inspiring many along the way.
