While an event sets out to honor the rich legacy of basketball, a fresh wave of talent prepares to write its own chapter.

On Sunday, “Basketbol Baliktanaw” will bring together enthusiasts, legends, and historians at Ortigas Foundation Library in Greenhills, San Juan, for what organizers hail as the first-ever summit on Philippine basketball history and culture.

Spearheaded by collector and basketball historian Dr. Michael Rico Mesina, the event features lectures, panel discussions, and a rare memorabilia exhibit.

“As a basketball enthusiast, I’ve been looking for an event where I can learn from the different basketball legends and from the most astute basketball minds,” said Mesina, a radiologist by profession, during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday.

The event will be followed closely by the rise of the sport’s next generation. This April, the National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) kicks off its 31st season, with Immaculada Concepcion College aiming for a third straight title.
