Que, now part-time coach, opens bid for second OOM title
Angelo Que rarely gets the chance—and the desire—to practice hard these days. But the multiple leg winner on the Asian Tour swears that his thirst for competition remains unquenched at 46 years old.
“I never get tired of playing in tournaments,” Que told the Inquirer after playing nine holes at the Legends course of Manila Southwoods a couple of days back, his practice round leading into the first leg of the 2026 Philippine Golf Tour season that unfolds Tuesday with the P3 million ICTSI Lakewood Championship in Nueva Ecija.
“Don’t get me wrong, I still love to compete. Unless I am unable, I will play in tournaments,” he went on. “But nowadays, practicing the way I used to is my problem. I never seem to have the time anymore. And besides, I coach a few pros now and I love it.”
The former PH Open champion said that he will campaign here full-time and will play select events overseas. And part of the reason why he wants to see action in the PGT as much as he can is to unlock another achievement in winning a second straight Order of Merit (OOM) title.
Que won his first OOM just last year, narrowly over Keanu Jahns, as the duo each won three legs.
“That was nice. And I’d like to give it a shot again and unlock another achievement,” he said with a smile before going on to talk about some pros who have approached him asking to be taught the finer points of winning tournaments.
“I would like to give back as much as I can. This sport has been very good to me,” Que said as his coaching career started keeping him on the course without him playing.
“I’d like to help them take the next step—which is usually the hardest one to take,” said Que, who counts as some of his early students Ivan Monsalve, Aidric Chan and defending Lakewood champion Sean Ramos, among others.
Ramos returns to the site of his maiden pro win, carved out in 2024 after he turned back Reymon Jaraula and eventual OOM champion Antonio Lascuña in the stretch.
That victory gave him the confidence to take his act overseas and immediately earn some success. He is more than motivated to repeat this week, especially now that he’s armed with some additional how-to-win knowledge from Que.
