Three-team trade up for approval as Converge eyes Policarpio
Converge continues to look for ways to build a contender to challenge the established heavyweights of the Philippine Basketball Association, taking part in a three-team trade that will net the FiberXers promising wing Jonnel Policarpio.
Under the framework of the deal, which has to pass scrutiny from the league, NLEx will send Policarpio to Converge and Javee Mocon to Meralco, with the Road Warriors receiving Kurt Reyson and a future draft pick from Meralco.
Converge, meanwhile, will ship flashy guard Schonny Winston to NLEx, along with veteran forward Kevin Racal.
“Javee brought leadership to our locker room, while Jonnel showed great potential and energy from day one,” said NLEx team governor Ronald Dulatre.
“We thank them for their contributions to the Road Warriors and wish them nothing but success in the next chapter of their careers.”
The Road Warriors reached the quarterfinals of the recent Philippine Cup, where they lost to eventual champion San Miguel Beer.
Converge also made a quarterfinal exit in the last conference when it fumbled its twice-to-beat advantage at the hands of Barangay Ginebra.
By dealing away Winston, Converge looks to be creating roster space for Mikey Williams, amid reports that he is finally suiting up for the team after being traded there by TNT in exchange for Jordan Heading.
