Trillo happy ‘Asian Stockton’ now on board

Five months after selecting him in the 2025 PBA Rookie Draft, Meralco has finally signed Jason Brickman to a contract.

The seventh overall pick of the Season 50 rookie selection, Brickman had to put his Meralco duties on hold as his MPBL contract with the Abra Weavers was still in full effect.

With the MPBL season over, Brickman has given his full commitment to Meralco.

To say coach Luigi Trillo is excited about it is an understatement.

“He’s like the Asian John Stockton if you think about it,” Trillo told the Inquirer via a phone call. “He knows where to make his passes. I’m really happy that he signed.”

The six-foot guard was instrumental in the Abra Weavers’ sweeping of the Quezon Huskers in last year’s MPBL Finals.

Trillo had his doubts initially about Brickman. However, seeing his leadership for the Abra Weavers made Trillo certain that they now hold a “top player” in their midst.

“We took the risk of selecting him at seven [in the 2025 PBA Draft] … He’s a top player and an experienced player.”
