Lipa City extends its reputation beyond religious tourism, delving into a realm of diversified projects that cater to the various needs of its population. Mayor Eric Africa, spearheading these initiatives, envisions a city that seamlessly blends tradition with progress.

In recent years, Lipa City has witnessed a substantial increase in its budget, reaching an impressive P4 billion in 2024. Africa attributes this remarkable growth to efficiency in tax collection, an increase in real property tax estate, and prudent financial management. The city’s commitment to converting taxes into services is evident, with initiatives spanning from health to education.

Now considered as Batangas’ biggest city in terms of total population, Lipa has evolved from being a component of the sixth congressional district of Batangas–known as the lakeshore district–to an independent, full-fledged congressional district by itself.

The voting population of Lipa City, standing at 250,000, surpasses that of Batangas City, reflecting the city’s attractiveness for migrants seeking enhanced services.

“From daycare to college, residents here don’t pay a single peso for their education, including graduation fees. It’s a testament to the city’s commitment to the well-being and growth of its residents, exemplified by our state-of-the-art city hospital,” said the mayor.

Lipa City’s housing program, coupled with advancements in education infrastructure, aims to prepare for the city’s future needs. Foresight in urban planning ensures that Lipa City is ready for the future, with buildings designed for a capacity that accommodates potential growth.

Educational triumphs

Lipa City celebrates educational triumphs, with a 100 percent passing rate for new takers in criminology this year (98.5 percent overall). The city’s commitment to literacy and learning extends even during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the distribution of tablets and an intensified scholarship program.

While the city hosts a number of schools and universities, its student scholars are free to enroll in the academic institution of their choice. To strengthen its scholarship program, the local government forges academic partnerships with various institutions. Among its strong partners is FAITH Colleges in neighboring Tanauan which is home to a good number of bright, talented, and deserving Lipeño scholars for several years now.

Beyond academics, Lipa City takes pride in its cleanliness. The city also boasts of having the lowest crime rate in Batangas. The city has become a hub for various facilities, including top-notch schools, a tertiary hospital, and even golf courses.

In line with the city’s commitment to education, the locally funded teachers’ program ensures that Lipa City attracts and retains quality educators. This strategic investment in human capital contributes not only to the academic success of Lipa’s youth but also to the overall vibrancy of the community.

Efforts to improve road networks, such as the Circumferential Road, and a burgeoning technology center contribute to employment opportunities.

“It’s important to entice people to come here. And with Lipa’s cool climate, elevated setting, and strategic location, it has also become an enticing retirement destination,” the mayor said.

Agriculture, once the backbone of Lipa’s economy, is not forgotten in the city’s development plans. With close to 3,000 hectares of land area for agriculture, Lipa City acknowledges the importance of sustaining its agricultural sector.
