2 Filipina nannies missing in Seoul
Two Filipina caregivers who were part of a government-to-government labor deal have gone missing in Seoul, according to the English language newspaper Korea Times.
The report said the unidentified caregivers were last seen on Sept. 15, the eve of the Chuseok autumn harvest festival, and were supposed to return on Sept. 18.
Local officials suspect that the two may have started looking for new employment after not being fully paid their promised wages.
The report said the two were among the 100 child caregivers sent by the government to Seoul and arrived there on Aug.26.
The Inquirer reached out to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for more details about the case, but they have yet to respond as of this writing. Korea officials said the two will be considered illegal immigrants if they remain out of contact in the next few days.—JACOB LAZARO
