On Sept. 5, the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) launched the National Teachers’ Month stamp, with the theme, “Pagpapatibay ng mga Guro: Daan sa Matatag na Kinabukasan.”

At the kick-off ceremony for National Teachers’ Month held in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, PHLPost, represented by Northwest Luzon area director Jun Malacapo, presented the 2024 National Teachers’ Month commemorative stamp frame to Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Mel John Verzosa and assistant secretaries Cilette Liboro Co and Malcolm Garma.

National Teachers’ Month is observed pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 242, issued during the term of President Benigno S. Aquino III. The proclamation officially declares the period Sept. 5 to Oct. 5 each year as National Teachers’ Month. Oct. 5 is celebrated as World Teachers’ Day.

National Teachers’ Month is a time to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of teachers across the country, who are often considered our second parents.

Throughout this period, various activities are held to show appreciation for the bayani of our classrooms. Schools often hold programs and commercial establishments offer special promotions for teachers.

Annually, the Post Office has been releasing stamps with varying themes to celebrate Filipino teachers. In 2021, during the pandemic, stamps featured teachers as front-liners who fight for a better future for their students. Other years had stamps that highlighted their role in promoting Filipino values and culture to their students. This year, the design centers on how teachers guide learners in achieving their dreams.

Themes

This year’s National Teachers’ Month stamp illustrates an image of a teacher empowering learners to develop their full potential to create a better and brighter future for everyone.

Postmaster general Luis D. Carlos said the stamps are a way to show appreciation for the hard work teachers put in for their classes and students. “Through the National Teachers’ Month commemorative stamps, we pay tribute to our beloved teachers who are vital in molding the future of the Filipino youth. It is in school that they spend most of their childhood and adolescence, studying and learning new things. It is in the hands of the teachers to bring these young minds into becoming responsible and productive citizens of this country,” he said.

“We say thank you to our teacher for accepting the hard role of not just being a teacher but also a parent to us. You will continuously be our model, our inspiration to be good in whatever career we choose in life.”

Stamps and official first-day covers will be available soon at the Manila Central Post Office postal counter located at Annex Building in Liwasang Bonifacio.
