Stallion cops top seeding after thrilling win
Stallion Laguna secured top seeding in the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Women’s Cup after a thrilling 1-0 win over Kaya-Iloilo over the weekend at McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig City.
American striker Jamia Fields struck the winner in the sixth minute of second half stoppage to give Stallion the full three points and the luxury of facing the No. 4 team in the semifinals of the domestic cup competition.
The result put Stallion and Kaya on even terms with 12 points apiece, but the former held the tiebreaker due to the win-over-the-other rule.
Kaya was handed its first loss of the competition after four straight victories to settle for the No. 2 seed and a date with the No. 3 squad in the semis.
Meanwhile, Beach Hut secured the last semis berth after defeating Tuloy FC, 3-2, with all goals scored inside the final 10 minutes of normal time.
Celina Beatrice Salazar and Jelina Soon scored successive penalties in the 82nd and 84th to put Beach Hut ahead.
