‘Hyun-hits’: What were Hyundai Philippines’ best-sellers in 2024?

Avatar

Given that the entire Philippine car market grew by just 8.7 percent in 2024, any car company that achieved double-digit growth has accomplished a feat.

But selling 32 percent more cars from 2023 is a huge achievement – something that Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) can truly be proud of. And among its 12,023 units sold last year, 6,068 were the Stargazer and Stargazer X multi-purpose vehicles (MPV).

But which of its other models were HMPH’s biggest hits? We list the rest of the top five from the South Korean automaker.

Staria

In second place is the capacious and dramatic Staria van, which sold 1,623 units last year.

Much like the Stargazer and Stargazer X, this big Hyundai incorporates a full-width LED daytime running light that sits right on the hoodline. Styling cues like the large windows, steeply raked windshield and tall taillights provide a truly sleek and exciting shape that stands out from boring and boxy vans.

All Staria models are powered by a 2.2-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 turbodiesel pumping out 175 horsepower and 430 Newton-meters of torque. This is mated to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission, with all-wheel-drive available in the top-spec Premium+ variants.

The Premium+ models also come with the Hyundai Smartsenseactive-safety suite that includes Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist-Junction, Surround View Monitor and Blind-Spot View Monitor.

Prices start at P1,560,000 for the business-oriented Staria Cargomodel and go up to P3,030,000 for the opulent Staria Premium+ AWD 7-Seater variant.

Hyundai H-100

H-100

The Hyundai H-100 quickly proved itself in the commercial-vehicle segment by combining superb utility with a more modern design that offered greater comfort for the driver and passengers.

With a 1,661-kilogram payload, multiple body options and seating for three, HMPH’s workhorse has been a boon for businesses that drive through tight streets and must get around Metro Manila’s stringent truck bans. That’s why it placed third in HMPH’s 2024 sales chart with 1,212 units.

The H-100 is powered by a 2.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 turbodiesel pumping out 128 horsepower and 254 Newton-meters of torque. This is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that allows for better acceleration with heavy loads and more efficient cruising at expressway speeds.

Hyundai Custin

Custin

Launched in October 2023, the Custin seven-seater MPV has proven to be a hit for Hyundai in the Philippines with 1,206 units sold last year.

Besides incorporating sharp styling, it distinguishes itself from its competition with its large sliding doors on both sides. This allows for easy passenger entry and exit even in the tightest of parking slots, along with the much lower chance of banging into a car parked next to you.

The Custin is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine producing 168 horsepower and 253 Newton-meters of torque, coursed through an 8-speed automatic gearbox. All models come with second-row captain seats, with the Premium variant getting a moonroof, electrically adjustable seats and an electric tailgate.

The Hyundai Smartsense adaptive driver-assist system is standard in the Custin Premium, incorporating Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist and Lane Following Assist.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Santa Fe

Taking fifth place on HMPH’s 2024 sales chart is the Santa Fe three-row crossover with 756 units.

Featuring truly original styling and a vast interior, this big Hyundai is a refreshing entry in a segment where many pick-up-based models are already very long in the tooth. The Santa Fe GLS and GLS AWD comes with a 2.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine producing 191 horsepower and 246 Newton-meters of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Meanwhile, the Calligraphy AWD gets a turbocharged version of the 2.5-liter engine with a hearty 277 horsepower and 422 Newton-meters of torque, which are coursed through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Finally, the top-of-the-line Calligraphy HEV has a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-4 gasoline engine mated to an electric motor.

This electrified crossover has a combined output of 232 horsepower and 367 Newton-meters of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. All Santa Fe variants come standard with the Hyundai Smartsense active-safety suite for safer and more convenient journeys.

The range includes the GLS at P2,410,000, the GLS AWD at P2,540,000, the Calligraphy AWD at P3,100,000 and the Calligraphy HEV at P3,330,000.

With such a diverse range of vehicles available as of press time (and more to come), expect HMPH to continue riding its strong growth this Year of the Wood Snake.
