Manuel Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) and the Ayala Group will unite their digital health-care systems in a bid to boost accessibility and provide a unified ecosystem for Filipinos.

Metro Pacific Health Tech Corp. (mWell) said in a statement on Tuesday that it had fully acquired KonsultaMD, the flagship health-care platform of Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc.’s 917Ventures.

KonsultaMD will keep its brand while operating under MPIC management in the interim, according to mWell.

“By integrating our resources with KonsultaMD, we are well-positioned to provide expansive and high-quality health care to all Filipinos, both locally and globally,” mWell president and CEO Chaye Cabal-Revilla said.

Founded in 2015 as a health hotline, KonsultaMD currently has 2.7 million users and “a vast network of partner doctors,” and provides health services such as 24/7 consultations, diagnostics, medicine delivery and home care.

This will add to mWell’s current network of 3.1 million users, including 90,000 across Asia, North and South America, Africa, Oceania and Europe.

mWell’s digital health ecosystem also includes online consultations, e-pharmacy and artificial intelligence-powered health management.

“By combining our expertise with mWell’s powerful digital health ecosystem, we are set to bring even greater innovations to telehealth,” KonsultaMD CEO Beia Latay said in a statement.

mWell did not disclose its total investment into KonsultaMD.

The takeover is also seen to complement MPIC’s health-care services under Metro Pacific Health Corp. (MPH), whose network has expanded to 27 private hospitals.

MPH recently took over City of General Trias Doctors Medical Center Inc., representing its 16th provincial acquisition and second in the province.

This brought MPH’s total hospital capacity to around 4,400 beds, 11,000 doctors and 16,000 health-care staff capable of caring for 4.1 million patients annually.

Its other hospitals include Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Medical Center and Manila Doctors Hospital.
