BIZ BUZZ: DTI: Don’t click that link

Be careful when you visit the official website of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)—you might accidentally land on a phishing site that could steal your personal information.

The DTI issued an advisory over the weekend, warning the public about attempts to access its website being redirected to unauthorized gambling or malicious websites instead.

“As of this writing, the issue has been contained, and security measures have been reinforced to prevent further unauthorized redirections,” the agency said.

The DTI assured the public that the integrity of its databases and internal systems remains intact despite this issue.

“We assure the public that no sensitive personal or business data from the DTI systems have been compromised,” it added.

The DTI immediately launched an investigation with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center and its website hosting provider to get to the bottom of the problem.
