Heart device did not try to revive death convict

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE—The fears of the lawyers of a Tennessee death convict that his implanted heart defibrillator would try to shock him back to life did not happen, but they said Byron Black appeared “hurting” during the lethal injection procedure.

“Mr. Black suffered,” federal public defender Kelley Henry said.
