Aboitiz Construction completes berth expansion at Davao del Norte port

Mindanao can expect greater trading activity as the Aboitiz group completed a new berth at DICT Bulk Terminal, Inc. (DBTI) in Davao del Norte.

On Wednesday, Aboitiz Construction said it has finished the design and construction of the fifth berth at the Davao International Container Terminal.

The berth expansion, at 200 meters long and 18.5 meters wide, can accommodate vessels with a deadweight tonnage of up to 60,000.

The facility will also have a “state-of-the-art” material handling system, strengthening its cargo-handling capability.

With the completion of the project, the terminal now operates 930 meters of berth length—further positioning Mindanao as a “premier agro-industrial gateway,” the company said.

“Our continuing partnership with DICT—spanning projects since 2017—has allowed us to showcase our engineering and construction expertise in delivering quality infrastructure that supports the region’s growth,” Aboitiz Construction chair and president Anton Perdices said in a statement.

DBTI is a joint venture between Davao International Container Terminal, Inc. and Philcement Corp.

“The new berth is a sign of the progress in the region and looks to allow the efficient and cost-effective trade of goods, which will ultimately benefit the people of the Davao Region,” said DBTI president Ricardo Floirendo Lagdameo.
