Globe bets on prepaid fiber, sets expansion

Ayala-backed Globe Telecom sees its prepaid fiber internet service as a growth bright spot for its broadband business.
Globe said on Wednesday that, since launching in the market two years ago, its GFiber Prepaid continues to build traction. The segment saw a 37-percent growth in the second quarter alone.
The telecom giant said that the service is now “the most widely adopted prepaid fiber service” in the local market. Globe touts its “affordability, ease of access and reloadable setup.”
The internet solution has no lock-up period. Users can simply top up credits through the GlobeOne app.
Globe said that consumers are sticking with the prepaid service, as top-up rates hit 68 percent.
Its growing popularity has also helped the group’s total fixed-wired broadband base to increase to 1.5 million users from 1.2 million last year. Fiber services also account for more than 90 percent of Glove’s total broadband revenues.
According to Abby Cardino, vice president for broadband brand management at Globe, the service’s growth was “only the beginning.”
To keep the ball rolling, the company is expanding the footprint of GFiber Prepaid, particularly to “sari-sari” stores, to further reach the grassroots levels.
“With localized barangay offers and easy top-up options, GFiber Prepaid is built around the realities of everyday life, whether for online learning, remote work, or staying close to family and friends,” Cardino said in a statement.
“By listening to what customers truly need, it has become a trusted partner for households across the country, helping families thrive in today’s digital world,” she added.
In the first six months of 2025, Globe’s net income dropped by 14 percent to P12.4 billion from P14.53 billion. Consolidated gross service revenues also dipped by 2 percent to P80.2 billion from P82.2 billion a year ago.
Globe earlier said its home broadband unit provided lower contributions at P11.7 billion. This was down 3 percent from P12.1 billion, with more subscribers shifting to fiber from fixed wireless service.
