A full electric Isuzu D-Max, really?
The era of full electric vehicles, for this writer, has now officially begun.
Yes, electric cars have long been introduced in the market both here and abroad. But one can just actually “feel it” when it hits closer to home.
Now, a known household name, Isuzu, which is locally known as the “King of Diesel Engines” is having its flagship model, the D-MAX, fully electrified.
In July this year, the full electric workhorse made its way into the European market, which will then officially start deliveries in that region come February in 2026.
This brute keeps its tough, rugged no-nonsense character on the outside, but, this time, makes it gentle under the hood with its dual electric motors.
That time, according to Isuzu, it’s the first electric pickup in Europe built with full commercial use in mind.
There, customers in the United Kingdom can get to choose between two trims, the eDL40 and the top-spec eV-Cross, and can pick between Extended Cab and Double Cab body styles. Offered colors there are white, silver, black, and blue, with an exclusive white pearl finish for the higher trim.
What looks like a complete swagger was special blue version during its debut, complete with black accents and 18-inch wheels.
This full electric Isuzu D-Max uses two motors that together produce 188 hp and 325 N-m of torque. This setup sends power to all four wheels and carries with it some of the advanced terrain options from the diesel version.
This workhorse can tow up to 3.5 tons and carry over 1,000 kg on the bed, while also has 600-mm wading depth and 210-mm ground clearance.
The 66.9 kWh battery gives the truck a rated range of 263 km. Charging from 20 to 80 percent takes about an hour using a 50 kW DC charger.
The Diesel King can offer an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty for the battery. It rides on a modified version of the regular D-Max’s frame, but now uses a De-Dion suspension setup at the back instead of leaf springs. This can largely help give occupants much added ride comfort.
Currently, this full electric Isuzu D-Max is on full display at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show until November 9 at the Tokyo Big Sight.
Now, it’s just a matter of time when this full EV gets to arrive on our shores. That, for sure, would be a sight for sore eyes. Excited much?
