BIZ BUZZ: Shakeup at Unicapital
Another woman leader has taken up space in an overwhelmingly male-dominated finance sector.
Karen Singson is the new managing director of Unicapital Inc., one of the country’s leading independent investment houses.
With more than two decades of solid experience in the field, including serving as undersecretary of the Department of Finance, helping Philippine businesses compete with regional peers and make waves in the international scene might just come naturally for Singson.
“I am bringing an integrated view of how capital, governance, and innovation can accelerate growth,” Singson said.
“My focus is on bringing institutional-grade advisory and access to capital to the entrepreneurs and companies that power the Philippine economy,” she added.
Banking on Unicapital’s “legacy of trusted execution,” Singson seeks to complement it with technology and cash in on innovations “to help more companies scale their vision.”
Before her stint in the public sector, Singson, a CFA charterholder and Harvard Business School graduate, built her career in New York at the investment banking arm of Swiss Re and in the equity research group at Morgan Stanley, followed by buy-side experience covering Global Financials at The Boston Company Asset Management.
