Workers in Davao region to get P20-P30 pay hike
A two-stage increase in daily wage rates for private sector workers in Davao region is set to take effect in mid-March, based on the decision of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).
The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) on Wednesday said that the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) approved Wage Order Nos. RB XI-24 and RB XI-DW-04 issued by the RTWPB in Davao.
The agency said that the daily wage hike will directly benefit 66,772 minimum wage earners in the region.
Workers in the agriculture sector will get an additional P30 per day while those in the nonagriculture sector will get P20.
The wage hike will be implemented in two tranches—the first to take effect on March 13, and the next on Sept. 1.
“Upon implementation of all tranches, the increase will bring the daily minimum wages in the region from P505 to P525 for the agriculture sector, and from P510 to P540 for the nonagriculture sector, equivalent to P13,693.75 and P14,085 per month, respectively,” Dole said in a statement.
P500 for ‘kasambahay’
Aside from this, Dole said that “kasambahay,” or domestic workers, will receive a monthly wage increase of P500 for those assigned in chartered cities and first-class municipalities and P1,500 in other municipalities.
This will effectively increase their monthly minimum wage to a single rate of P6,500, which will benefit 64,111 domestic workers in the region.
Meanwhile, Dole noted that retail and service establishments with not more than 10 workers and enterprises affected by calamities may apply for an exemption to the wage increase until May 11.
