Alaminos, Pangasinan is latest Paleng-QR Plus city

Alaminos City in Pangasinan is the latest local government to take part in the Paleng-QR Plus campaign of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), issuing an ordinance that encourages consumers and businesses alike to adopt electronic payments for their transactions.

The BSP said in a statement the program’s launch in Alaminos City last Dec. 6 saw about 700 public market vendors and 3,600 tricycle drivers get onboard.

With the issuance of an ordinance that promotes the use of digital payments, more vendors and PUV drivers in Alaminos City are expected to follow suit.

Alaminos City is the 17th local government to launch Paleng-QR Plus. The others include Iloilo City, Baguio, Davao, Tagbilaran, Naga, Lapu-Lapu, Pasig, Bacolod, Camiling, Carmona, Victorias, Mandaue, Ozamiz, Cotabato, and Calamba. Paleng-QR Ph Plus is one of the priority programs under the BSP’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2022-2028, the guiding framework for all stakeholders working together to accelerate financial inclusion in the country.

Also, the nationwide program supports the BSP’s thrust to convert half of the total volume of retail payments in the country into digital form and to onboard 70 percent of Filipinos to the formal financial system by this year under the BSP’s Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap 2020-2023.

Further, in time with the holiday season, the BSP is encouraging the public to consider using digital or electronic money in sending cash gifts to their godchildren, friends and family members. INQ
