BIZ BUZZ: Calling all young farmers
The Department of Agriculture (DA) is scouting for young entrepreneurs who can drive the much-needed revolution in the Philippine agriculture sector.
The DA just launched the fifth season of the Young Farmers Challenge in Iloilo City to set the stage for the next generation of agripreneurs, innovators and leaders.
Winners will take home seed capital to jump-start their businesses: P300,000 for startups and P500,000 for upscale and intercollegiate ventures.
This year’s edition will gather 35 startup finalists, 15 upscale finalists and 14 Intercollegiate finalists representing state and local universities nationwide.
“They will go head to head in a pitch competition where clever ideas meet high stakes, each contestant vying for the crown of the country’s top youth-led agribusiness,” the DA said.
Finalists will be given an opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges composed of representatives from the government and top private sector partners, including Nestlé Philippines, Mama Sita’s and Jollibee Foods Corp.
The grand finale will be held on April 23 at the Iloilo Convention Center to crown the winning youth-led agribusiness, which may very well change the landscape of the local farm sector.
