EJAP to host first sustainability forum

Inquirer Staff

The Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) will hold its inaugural Sustainability Forum on March 23 at the SEC E-Center in Makati City.

The forum will gather regulators, investors and leaders to examine how sustainability disclosures are transforming the Philippine capital market.

The half-day forum is themed “From Disclosure to Decision: How Sustainability is Changing the Philippine Capital Market.” It will focus on the shift from voluntary, narrative-driven reporting to mandatory, investor-grade information that now directly affects governance, valuation and access to capital.

Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Francis Lim and Philippine Stock Exchange chief operating officer Roel Refran will deliver keynote addresses outlining regulatory expectations and explaining how disclosure quality affects investor behavior and market valuations.

“The rules around sustainability disclosures in the Philippines are changing fast,” EJAP president John Ted Cordero said. “This forum will examine how regulators and markets are enforcing this discipline, and how companies are responding in practice.”

A panel discussion will address critical questions facing Philippine businesses. These include the delivery of investor-grade sustainability data and how the market, banks and companies value sustainability performance.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Assistant Gov. Pia Bernadette Roman Tayag and Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) chief sustainability officer Chaye Cabal-Revilla will join the panel.

“This forum is designed to surface rules, consequences and real-world implementation challenges, rather than corporate messaging,” Cordero said. “Journalists have a critical role in scrutinizing sustainability claims with the same rigor we apply to earnings, regulation and capital flows.”

The forum will be held in partnership with MPIC, supported by San Miguel Corp. and SM Investments Corp. It is also backed by Ayala Corp., Development Bank of the Philippines, SM Prime Holdings, Inc., Globe Telecom, Inc., GT Capital Holdings, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc.

The event is expected to generate stronger, more consistent sustainability coverage across Philippine business media. Participating journalists will be equipped to track accountability lines, timelines and market implications.
