Experience the countryside at Nami Carolina
Tucked in the cool highlands of Alfonso, Cavite, just minutes from Tagaytay and a few hours’ drive from Manila, Nami Carolina is less a destination and more a gentle unfolding of time. Here, life slows, and the rhythms of the countryside invite you to rest, connect, and savor the everyday.
It is a place where the simple pleasures, green pastures, shared meals, and quiet mornings become luxuries—and where the art of living well is not taught but quietly experienced.
Where it all began
The story of Nami Carolina begins in 1996, when the Ledesma family acquired the property as an investment. The land, generous and unassuming, held promise but not yet a clear purpose. For years, it remained quietly in the background, waiting for the right moment to reveal what it could become.
That moment arrived decades later, during the stillness of the pandemic. What began as a modest plan for a summer home gradually evolved into a more meaningful vision. The family’s eldest daughter, Cheese Ledesma-Ong, took the lead, living on the property for months and overseeing construction. A simple inquiry about massage services for herself revealed an unexpected opportunity: wellness treatments were both available and sought after in the area.
From there, the vision expanded. What was once a private retreat began to take shape as a wellness estate, rooted in rest, nourishment, and the restorative rhythms of the countryside.

Shaping the land
The land itself guided this transformation. A pre-existing pasture became the natural focal point of the home. Rather than altering it, the family chose to honor it.
The house opens toward this wide, green expanse, where cows, goats, ducks, and chickens move at their own gentle pace. Mornings arrive softly, afternoons stretch without urgency, and evenings settle into a calm. For guests accustomed to city life, the simple act of sitting on the porch, looking out over the pasture, becomes a form of therapy.
The family’s background in hospitality shaped what Nami Carolina would become. From their long experience running Nami Resort in Boracay, with its restaurant and spa, they brought a deep understanding of what makes people feel cared for.
This experience informed a concept that feels elevated yet personal—a private retreat with a dedicated chef-butler and integrated wellness offerings.

What’s in a name?
The name itself carries both memory and meaning. “Nami,” an Ilonggo word evoking something exquisite, beautiful, and delicious, is a tribute to their former hotel in Boracay, which was lost to a fire. But by keeping the name, the Ledesma family ensured its spirit would live on.
“Carolina” was added to honor multiple generations. For the only son, Lex Ledesma, it evokes memories of summers in Davao with his grandmother, Carolina (Lat-Perez de Tagle), fondly called Lola Nena; his mother, also named Carolina (Perez de Tagle-Ledesma), whom I affectionately call Tita Candy; and his niece, Cheese’s eldest daughter, Carolina (Ledesma-Ong), lovingly called Calene.
I had the pleasure of meeting Tita Candy decades ago at a Landmark Forum, where, in a serendipitous twist, we became partners in one of the sessions, and now, years later, I had the honor of interviewing her.

A space that invites you to simply be
Arrival at Nami Carolina is understated yet deeply felt. As the gates open, the outside world recedes, revealing a private, restful space that invites guests to simply be. “The home is cozy and inviting. Surrounded by cool, chilly air that instantly slows you down. No rush, no noise. A perfect place to disconnect and recharge,” writes one guest.
Here, the guiding principle is joie de vivre—the joyful appreciation of life in its simplest pleasures.
The architecture reflects this ethos. Inspired in part by their travels to South Africa—where Cheese and her husband Joel, along with Lex and wife Chippy, fell in love with the raw beauty of the land—the estate features Cape Dutch-inspired architecture, designed to embrace openness and a seamless connection to the surrounding landscape.
There is a quiet confidence in its structure: architecturally unique yet never imposing. Every line and opening draws the eye outward, inviting guests to appreciate the beauty of nature just beyond the walls.

Where food is the language of love
Inside, the home revolves around the dining space, a deliberate nod to Filipino culture, where food is the language of love.
Meals become moments of connection, with conversation flowing as easily as the dishes being served. The layout encourages togetherness while still allowing for privacy in well-appointed individual rooms. The interiors, designed by Chippy, an interior stylist with a flair for tablescaping, exude warmth and ease, with thoughtful attention to detail in every corner. The result is elegant yet never overstated.
Hospitality here is thoughtful and refined. Alfie, the longtime chef-butler, curates meals from casual lunches to six-course degustation, drawing on the family’s heritage—Tita Candy having lived in Spain—with Spanish, Italian, and Filipino flavors.
Dining is unhurried and abundant, accommodating up to 30 guests, while the farmhouse hosts up to 10 overnight.

The charm of countryside living
Beyond the dining table, Nami Carolina invites guests to fully embrace the charm of countryside living. Families and friends gather around the bonfire pit, enjoying cool evenings under a star-filled sky, sharing stories, grilling sausages, or making s’mores, a simple pleasure impossible to replicate in the city. For hands-on culinary fun, the brick oven allows guests to make pizza together, creating both memories and meals.
Hospitality flows seamlessly into wellness. Jocelyn, the skilled masseuse, offers treatments for both body and mind, enhancing the estate’s restorative calm.
Meanwhile, the days are unstructured: guests can wander the pasture, stroll the herbal garden, or sit on the porch and watch farm life unfold. Children play, animals roam, and adults rediscover the quiet luxury of unclaimed time. With no television, bonding, conversation, and shared experiences take center stage.
Whether a leisurely breakfast, a multi-course dinner, a night by the bonfire, or a massage under the stars, every detail at Nami Carolina encourages slowing down, reconnecting, and savoring life. The estate welcomes families, friends, women on retreat, and corporate groups, and with tents and outdoor catering, it has also hosted intimate weddings.

A time for reflection, connection, and simple joy
At its core, Nami Carolina restores balance, inviting a slower way of living, a time for reflection, connection, and simple joy. “Time to examine life—an unexamined life is not worth living,” feels especially true here, where moments are unhurried. To sit before a green pasture, share a meal prepared with care, and rest deeply. These are its luxuries.
Nami Carolina reflects the spirit of giving long associated with the Cavite highlands. With historical ties to Hammond Buck, the American soldier who explored the area in the late 1800s, who took an interest in local culture, and was known as the person who “owned” Tagaytay, the Ledesma family continues this legacy through a space of hospitality, reflection, and generosity.
Architecturally unique, an oasis of calm—above all, a place where countryside living is not only seen, but truly and beautifully experienced.
