MIAS 2026: Updated MG5 now in PH for under P900k
MG Philippines is wooing first-time car buyers with the official launch of its updated MG5 sedan on Thursday at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
Called the MG5 Prestige, the biggest changes are to the car’s styling – the front end has a more premium look, thanks to automatic LED projector headlights with daytime-running lights, along with a subtler front grill. The lower bumper now has dedicated openings with silver trim that add a sporty flavor, complementing the two-tone, 16-inch alloy wheels.
Meanwhile, the rear end has been refreshed with wider LED taillights that are joined by a chrome strip. Length is up 6 millimeters from the previous model to 4,607 mm, while the 1,818-millimeter width, 1,489-millimeter height and 2,680-millimeter wheelbase remain the same as before.
The MG5 Prestige is available in four colors, namely Diamond Red, Phantom Black Metallic, Cosmic Siler and Dover White.
Well-equipped
Inside, the MG5 Prestige comes standard with synthetic-leather upholstery, power sunroof and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Design elements of the dashboard have been taken from the larger and sportier MG GT sedan, particularly the lower center air-conditioning vents and revamped central storage cubby. Other premium features include a climate-control system with rear air vents, electric parking brake, reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, cruise control and tire-pressure monitoring.
The MG5 Prestige’s trunk capacity remains at 512 liters and can be expanded by the folding rear seats.
Proven powertrain
Under the hood is MG’s familiar 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine pumping out 108 horsepower and 142 Newton-meters of torque, which are coursed through a continuously variable transmission.
MG Philippines said the engine is compatible with upcoming Euro VI fuel and emission standards. Aside from anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control, the MG5 Prestige’s safety gear includes front and side airbags, along with ISOFIX child-restraint anchors.
“With its combination of modern styling, smart technology, spacious design, and everyday usability, the MG5 Prestige offers exceptional value—bringing features typically found in higher segments into an accessible and well-rounded sedan,” the automaker said in a press statement.

“It reflects MG’s commitment to delivering globally designed vehicles that meet the evolving needs of Filipino drivers,” MG Philippines added.
City, ATIV rival
At P888,888, the all-new 2026 MG5 Prestige heavily undercuts 1.5-liter subcompact sedans like the P1,069,000 Toyota ATIV G and the P1,083,000 Honda City V.
To celebrate its launch, MG Philippines said it is offering a limited-time, introductory promo of P20,000 cash savings, a low-downpayment offer starting at P70,000, and one free preventive maintenance service. The new four-door also gets a 5-year/100,000-kilometer warranty (whichever comes first) and 3-years free roadside assistance.
And for those who attend MIAS 2026 from April 9 to 12 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, visitors of the MG Pavilion can get event-exclusive promos on all MG models except the all-new G50 PHEV.
Customers who place a minimum reservation of just P1,000 will enjoy an additional P10,000 cash discount on top of existing promotional offers, including model-specific cash savings or low-downpayment deals. On top of that, customers will also receive a P10,000 fuel card delivered approximately two weeks after vehicle release (terms and conditions apply).
